Hand Block Printing as a Guest Experience

For centuries, printers around Jaipur have pressed carved teak blocks into dye and stamped them, row by row, onto cotton. Sanganer is known for its fine florals on white grounds; Bagru for its earthier, bolder prints. A block printing station brings a small piece of that living craft to your event, and lets guests try it with their own hands.

It is a simple process to learn and a satisfying one to do. The artist explains how to load the block evenly, how to line it up and how much pressure to use. Guests then choose their motifs, perhaps a buta, a jaal border and a small bird, and build their own layout. No two pieces come out the same, even from the same set of blocks.

We work with fabric-friendly pigment colours that set as they dry, so pieces can be carried home the same day once they are touch-dry. Items are pre-washed and ready to print.

  • Tote bags that guests actually use afterwards
  • Cotton stoles and dupattas for weddings and festive events
  • Napkins, coasters and table runners for intimate dinners
  • Custom blocks with initials or a logo, carved to order with enough lead time

The format is flexible. A drop-in station suits a mehendi afternoon or an exhibition, where guests wander over whenever they like. A seated workshop suits a corporate team session or a school, where everyone starts together and learns a little about the craft's history along the way.

Because the craft has such deep roots here, block printing feels especially meaningful for destination weddings and international guests visiting Lohardaga. It is a souvenir with a story, made on the day.

Formats & options

Block Printing Experiences We Offer

Pick a format
01

Drop-In Printing Station

An open table where guests walk up, pick a blank item and print it with the artist's guidance. It suits mehendi functions, family gatherings and exhibitions where people move around freely. Each guest typically spends ten to fifteen minutes and leaves with a finished piece.

02

Seated Team Workshop

A structured session for a fixed group, often 60 to 90 minutes long. It begins with a short introduction to Sanganeri and Bagru printing, then moves to practice prints and a final piece that each participant keeps. It works well for corporate offsites, team-building and school groups.

03

Wedding Favour Printing

Guests print a tote bag, stole or pouch as their own wedding favour. We can include a custom block with the couple's initials or wedding date, carved in advance, so every piece carries a small reminder of the celebration and the people they shared it with.

04

Branded Activation Prints

For exhibitions, craft fairs and brand activations, we combine traditional motifs with a custom logo block. Visitors create a branded tote they genuinely want to keep, which gives your brand a far longer life than a printed flyer handed out at the entrance.

05

Table Linen Dinner Experience

For intimate dinners and private parties, guests print their own napkins or a shared table runner before the meal. It is a gentle, conversational activity that suits smaller groups and gives the evening a crafted, personal feel that guests remember long after dessert.

How it works

From enquiry to artwork

1

Share your event and guest group

Send the date, venue, timings, number of participants and their age group. Let us know whether you see this as a drop-in station or a seated workshop.

2

Pick items, blocks and colours

We suggest suitable fabric items and quantities, share the available motifs and agree on a colour palette. Custom initial or logo blocks are briefed and approved at this stage.

3

Confirm space, drying and quote

We plan the table layout, drying area and handover, decide how many artists are needed and share an itemised quote covering materials, staff and travel.

4

Printing on the day

The team sets up protected tables and colour trays, guides each guest through their print and arranges pieces to dry before they are folded or bagged for guests to take home.

Why RangBrush

Why families & planners choose us for block printing

Led by Raju Kumawat, every booking is handled by the artist directly — from the first WhatsApp message to the final piece your guests take home.

01

Rooted in Jaipur's print tradition

Working from Jaipur keeps us close to the Sanganer and Bagru printing communities and their motifs. Guests learn a little about where each pattern comes from, not just how to press a block.

02

Mess managed properly

Colour and fabric need careful handling at a wedding. We bring aprons, covered tables and a separate drying zone, and keep the station well away from food and seating areas.

03

Items guests will actually use

We recommend sturdy cotton totes and soft stoles rather than flimsy samples, so the printed piece is used long after the event instead of being left in a drawer or a cupboard.

04

Custom blocks done right

Initial, date or logo blocks are simplified for carving and approved with you in advance, so they print cleanly alongside the traditional motifs and look like they belong to the same set.

Frequently asked questions about Block Printing Artist in Lohardaga

Is block printing too messy for a wedding?

It does involve colour, but it is very manageable with the right setup. We cover the tables, provide aprons, use measured amounts of pigment in trays and keep the station separate from food and lounge areas. Guests in heavy outfits can roll up their sleeves or print a smaller item. Most hosts are surprised by how tidy the station stays.

Will the print wash out?

We use fabric-friendly pigment colours that set as they dry. Pieces can be carried home once touch-dry, and we suggest guests wait a couple of days and iron the reverse side before the first gentle wash in cold water. With basic care, the print stays well on cotton totes, stoles and napkins.

What determines the cost of a block printing station?

Pricing depends on the number of participants, the fabric items and their quantity, the format (drop-in or seated workshop), the service hours, the number of artists and any custom blocks. Travel and stay are added for events outside Jaipur. We send an itemised quote so you can see exactly what is included.

Can we have a custom block with our initials or logo?

Yes. We prepare a simplified design suitable for carving, share it for approval and then have the block made. Hand-carved blocks need time, so please allow at least two to three weeks. Very fine lines or small text may need adjusting so the block prints clearly. We share a test print from the new block before the event.

Can block printing be held outdoors in Lohardaga?

Yes, it works well in gardens and courtyards. We need a shaded, level spot sheltered from strong wind and dust, since loose fabric and drying pieces can blow around. In the monsoon, a covered area is essential. A covered drying space near the station helps keep finished pieces clean until guests collect them.

Is it suitable for children and large groups?

Children enjoy it, usually from around six years old with an adult nearby. For large groups, a seated workshop in batches or additional artists keeps things orderly. Share your participant count and age range, and we will suggest the right format and number of tables. For mixed family events, we also keep simpler single-motif items ready for younger children.

Do you travel for events outside Lohardaga?

We do. We are based in Jaipur and travel with our blocks, colours and fabrics for weddings and corporate events across India. Outstation bookings include travel and accommodation in the quote, and we plan transport of materials so everything arrives in good condition and ready to print. Let us know about venue access timings early.
